Dana, a monetary gift, is a traditional offering from the heart. At the end of the retreat, there will be an opportunity to make an offering which goes directly to the teacher and translator.

Financial assistance toward the cost of registration is available. Please contact retreats@abhayafellowship.org for details.

  • Refunds:

Transactional and booking fees cannot be refunded.

Any cancellation made more than 30 days prior to retreat start date will be refunded, less transactional and booking fees; a $100 administrative fee will also be taken for any refunds. Retreatants may transfer their tuition to another person. It is highly recommended that you purchase Travel Insurance in the event of you need to cancel for any reason.

Any cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the retreat start date are non-refundable.

In the event that we must cancel the retreat due to changing covid mandates, we will reschedule the retreat date. We will refund those retreatants that are unable to make the new date (minus a $100 administrative fee).

  • The retreat will take place at the Pohakupuna Beach Club, 91-839 Pohakupuna Road, Ewa Beach HI 96706. Closest accommodations can be found less than 5 miles away at Hampton Inn & Suites O’ahu/Kapolei and resorts in Ko Olina (Four Seasons, Aulani Disney) are about 25 min away.

Please reserve accommodations early as the retreat is held over a holiday weekend.

We regret that onsite housing is not available.

You are most welcome to spend time at the retreat site during breaks, or feel free to travel back and forth between sessions.

  • The retreat begins Friday October 7 at 7 pm with an opening ceremony and orientation; please arrive at the venue around 6 pm to get settled. The main retreat concludes Sunday Oct 9 at 7:30 pm; or if you’d like to stay for optional practice and relaxation days, the last scheduled activity will conclude on Tuesday, Oct 11 around 6 pm.

Book your plane tickets to Honolulu International Airport (HNL), the only airport on the island of O’ahu. The airport is located approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour away (depending on traffic) from the retreat site.

For domestic travel, COVID restrictions have been lifted to and from Hawaii; there are no requirements. To keep up to date, visit https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel/ or https://www.hawaiianairlines.com/covid-test-options

  • There are several rental car companies available at HNL airport. Parking is available on site in the event parking lot.

A public bus is also available; use Google Maps for public transportation directions to Pohakupuna Beach Club (91-839 Pohakupuna Road, Ewa Beach HI 96706). The trip between Hampton Inn & Suites and Ewa Beach takes about 30 minutes, and the bus runs twice an hour. For public transport from the airport to local hotels, please allow 1.5 or 2 hours each way.

  • The climate in Hawaii is usually a balmy 85F degrees during the day. The nights will dip down into the mid 70’s. Most people do not need more than a light sweater or jacket in these temperatures.

The retreat will be held outdoors on the lawn under a tent. In the Tibetan traditional style, retreatants will be asked to sit on carpeted ground. If you have a favorite meditation cushion or aids to help you sit for longer periods of time, please bring them. We will have some chairs and beach chairs available for those who are unable to sit on the ground. Please let me know in advance if you will be requiring that for the retreat.

This retreat packing list is not exhaustive and is a recommendation of items to bring in addition to your usual travel items (such as prescription medications, favorite pajamas, eyeglasses/contact lenses):
